Can you guarantee me work?No, we are unable to guarantee our Zero-hour Contract tutors work, but the more availability you have during school hours the more likely it is that we will be able to fill your schedule. As our company grows, permenant part-time and full time positions will become available which will be offered internally to our casual workers first.

How many hours per week of work will I receive with you?Working with us is very flexible to your schedule, and the amount of work available can scale with your availability, range of key stages and subjects, and the different additional educational needs you can support. Tutors and Learning Coaches may deliver anywhere between 2 - 30 hours per week.

What does your recruitment process involve?Here's an overview of what the process looks like: Job Advertisement & Application: We advertise roles with a detailed job description, highlighting safeguarding duties. Applicants must submit a completed application form, including relevant experience and qualifications. Right to Work Check: We require proof of eligibility to work in the UK before proceeding. Self-Declaration: All candidates must complete a self-declaration form to disclose any criminal convictions or cautions. Shortlisting & Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview, where they will be asked questions related to safeguarding. The interview panel includes a safeguarding expert. References: We request two professional references, one of which must be from a previous role where you worked with children or young people (if applicable). DBS Check: An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for all successful candidates to ensure they are suitable to work with children. Conditional Offer & Safeguarding Training: If selected, a conditional offer is made, subject to satisfactory background checks. Successful candidates will undergo safeguarding training as part of their induction. Induction & Monitoring: New hires complete a comprehensive induction, which includes safeguarding training, and will be monitored during their probationary period to ensure they uphold high safeguarding standards.

Do you have work for tutors in my area?We have in-person opportunities for mentoring, coaching, and QTS tutoring in Swindon, Wiltshire and online opportunities for QTS tutoring UK wide.

I am not available until X date in the future. Is it still worth me putting in an application now, or should I wait?Yes! If you have the time and availability to complete our Recruitment process we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible. When do I need to be available for tutoring/mentoring?The majority of our tutoring and mentoring sessions take place during school hours, with additional options available for after-school sessions. We prioritise flexibility to accommodate our team member's work-life balance.

Can I get an Enhanced DBS with you?Yes, we have partnered with a company to whom we can refer you to obtain an Enhanced DBS at a cost set by our partner company. We suggest signing up to the DBS update service within 28 days of receiving your certificate.

What do I need to be able to work with you?That depends on the role. In our Alternative Learning Provision: For our QTS GCSE Core Subject roles you will need 2 years of teaching experience and Qualified Teaching Status (QTS). For our QTLS Functional Skills Subjects roles you will need 2 years of teaching experience and Qualified Teaching Learning and Skills Status (QTLS). For Creative Tutor roles, we accept a range of qualifications and experience with a minimum Level 2 Functional Skills/ GCSE Grade C in Maths and English. For our aspirations coaching, mentoring and preparing for work practitioner roles, we accept a range of qualifications, certifications and experience. For apprentices with an Education, Health, and Care plan or legacy statement, the minimum requirement for English and Maths is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL. For our Community Tutoring roles, you must have considerable tutoring experience in your subject area or for our Peer Tutors, you must have received a grade 8 or 9 in the GCSE subjects you plan to tutor. For all roles you will need: 2x references, including your most recent employer and covering 3 years of your work history. An Enhanced DBS Appropriate level of safeguarding training Paediatric First Aid/ First Aid at Work for 1:1 trips and outings. *We can support you in getting these.

I have lived and worked abroad, can I go straight into working with you?We are excited to work with tutors from all walks of life. If you have recently lived and worked abroad, the only additional requirement is for police checks from whichever countries you have been living in. If you do not have these, please visit the government website for details on how to apply for this.

Can I tutor with you alongside my current tutoring / teaching work?Yes, many of our tutors work with us alongside other work and life commitments. The only time a staff member would need to seek permission from the company is for those in permenant contracts with Rebel Training Group.

What additional benefits do tutors and mentors at Rebel Training receive?In addition to the support that we provide, we also invest in our tutors. We run community events for our tutors, maintain an online tutor community page for mutual support and give each of our tutors and mentors ongoing opportunities for CPD.

What reporting is required?After every session, we ask you to complete a report on that session so that we can monitor the student progress. This also helps us to track your hours and ensure you are paid promptly each month. At the end of each placement, we will also ask you to complete a conclusive report for the child or young person you have been supporting. Please note that reports are completed online.

What is the usual duration of a tuition session?Our tutoring sessions generally run between 1-2 hours. Mentoring and work experience coaching may last for 3 hours and pastoral support sessions anywhere from 3-6 hours with the supervision of online QTS tutoring taken place within that timeframe.

What support do you provide compared to other tutoring companies?Supporting our tutors, we have a dedicated safeguarding team who conduct regular check-ins, supervisions, provide advice and guidance, and answer any questions that you may have. Our streamlined systems are set up to reduce the administrative load and our Referrals Team meticulously matches tutors with placements that align with their skill sets.

How long does it take from when I apply to when I will start working?Our goal is speedy progression for all of our candidates. We will aim to interview you within 2 days of applying and have your application completed within 1 week of passing the interview. In most cases, our speed through the process depends on your prompt interview booking and submission of references and documents.

By taking great care of our tutors and mentors, we ensure better outcomes for our students. Furthermore, we provide industry-leading support to strengthen the relationships between tutors and families, helping them succeed in their roles.

Where does tuition, coaching and mentoring take place?Tuition takes place across a range of environments. In person small-group tuition and mentoring takes place in our one of our Alternative Learning Hubs whereas 1:1 tuition may take place in the young person's home, a school or residential children's home, and 1:1 mentoring may take take place out in the community.

How much do you pay for various roles?Our rates are currently under view across all roles.

Are tutors paid for planning, preparation, and reporting time?No, unless the postition is a permenant contract, we do not directly pay for planning, preparation, or reporting time but these will be taken into account in the rate offered for each given placement.

Do I need to submit invoices to be paid?Tutors who are engaged as ‘workers’, meaning they are employed for the duration of their employment, will be paid automatically at the beginning of every month with tax covered by PAYE, so there is no need to submit invoices to be paid. Tutors and Specialist roles can be engaged as self employed individuals and in this case an invoice should be sent.

Will I be paid for the time taken to do any training with you?While we offer all our high-quality training for free, we do not provide compensation to 0-hour contract tutors for this training.

Are your tutors or mentors self-employed?We have two options. Tutors and mentors can be engaged as ‘Workers’ meaning that for the duration of your placement, you will be employed by Rebel Training Group and paid via PAYE. Tutors and Specialist roles can be engaged as self employed indiviuals. For someone to be recognized as self-employed, they typically need to demonstrate that they work for multiple clients, not just one. This aligns with UK tax regulations (e.g., HMRC) to ensure the individual is not treated as an employee of a single organisation.

Do tutors and mentors have to prepare and pay for their own resources?For the hours you deliver targeted learning or interventions, we pay an additional 10% planning time. Our tutor community shares free resources and we are currently planning our resource budget.

Are tutors or mentors paid for travel to their tuition?Your contract will specify Swindon postcode areas as your designated work location. While travel time to and from your first and last working location of the day is not paid, mileage expenses will be reimbursed if you are required to travel between multiple locations during your working day.
