Rebel Training is a new provider of therapeutic learning support for vulnerable children, young people and families in Swindon. Our mission is to transform the quality of support and education for children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities) and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
Our Alternative Learning Provision is designed to raise standards for those missing education by providing inclusive, adaptive, trauma-informed learning programmes and interventions. We empower students with the skills, resilience, and confidence they need to succeed in learning, life, and future careers.
Youth voice is central to everything we do. We co-create learning experiences with the young people and and the families we support, ensuring their views and needs shape their personalised journey.
ROLE PURPOSE
We are a new alternative learning provision in Swindon, seeking a passionate, creative, and empathetic Tutor with a magnetic personality and a drive for positive change.
This role is perfect for experienced professionals with a background in SEN/SEND or mental health, who are dedicated to re-engaging at-risk and vulnerable individuals using innovative, creative, and flexible teaching methods. Our mission is to support students in reintegrating into school or transitioning to post-16 pathways.
The ideal candidate will be confident in using technology and digital tools to inspire learning, explore curriculum themes, and help young people build confidence in their abilities and unique talents. They will also have the ability to incorporate community initiatives to enhance learning and foster a sense of belonging and connection.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an inspiring tutor to provide 1:1 tuition for a Year 7 student with SEMH needs (no formal diagnosis) who has been out of education for an extended period. This role will be based at a children's home, and your support will help the student reintegrate into education.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 11 am - 1:30 pm (with an additional hour for admin).
Provision: The provision requested is our Impact Hub, which includes:
- Digital and tech-based creative projects aligned with the student's interests and national campaigns (use of tools, e.g. Canva, Wix Education)
- Embedded Core English and Maths in each session
- Personal development, well-being, and resilience-building topics
The primary aim is to reignite a love for learning, rebuild confidence, and support the student's graduated reintegration into a suitable group or school setting.Â
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Subject Tuition: Deliver at Creative Digital Tuition that incorporates Maths and English, adapted for young people with SEMH.Â
Creative and Engaging Sessions: Plan and deliver personalised, interactive lessons that embed literacy and numeracy within digital or creative activities.Â
Trauma-Informed Practice: Provide holistic tutoring and mentoring that reflects students’ emotional needs, promotes wellbeing, and fosters a sense of safety and belonging.Â
Progress Monitoring: Carry out baseline assessments and track individual progress towards EHCP targets and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).Â
Pastoral Support: Offer encouragement and guidance to help students overcome barriers, improve attendance, and develop life skills.Â
Partnership Working: Liaise with families, external professionals, and education settings to support student development.Â
Enrichment: Support access to trips, life skills sessions, and creative tutorials that build confidence and transferable skills.Â
Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, equality, British Values, and Prevent duty at all times.Â
Professional Conduct: Work in line with the organisation’s Code of Conduct, health and safety policies, and GDPR requirements.Â
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Requirements
A passion for working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or additional needs
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in tutoring, teaching or youth work
Level 2/Grade C or above in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)
Strong communication and organisational skills
An understanding of trauma-informed practice, ACEs, and restorative approaches
A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
Ability to build strong relationships with families, schools, and professionals
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Two professional references
Legal right to work in the UK
Desirable Requirements
Registered on the DBS Update Service
Knowledge of therapeutic, creative, or youth work approaches
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or other relevant qualifications such as youth work, children and family practitioner, counselling (or willingness to work towards additional qualifications for future permanent roles)
