David Lyons

David Lyons is a dedicated English tutor with over 16 years of teaching and tutoring experience, specialising in supporting students at KS3, KS4, and GCSE levels, including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Utilising Pearson's top-tier digital resources for KS3 English, as well as GCSE English Language and Literature exams, David designs tailored teaching programmes that cater to each student's individual requirements. He also draws upon a wide range of materials from Hodder Education, ensuring his students benefit from high-quality resources that make lessons both engaging and effective.

David holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in English from the University of Bath, along with a Bachelor's degree in American Studies from the University of Manchester. He has further honed his teaching skills with a TEFLA qualification from St Giles College, London, and a certificate in Using Adaptive Baseline Assessment to improve school performance.

His teaching career has been enriched by international experience, including a role as an ESL teacher and curriculum developer in Saudi Arabia.

David has extensive experience working with students who have a range of SEMH needs, such as PDA, selective mutism, anxiety, and depression. Since January 2022, he has delivered over 1,350 hours of SEN tutoring for three agencies. He has also completed the SEND in the Classroom course, which equips educators to assess, plan for, and support special educational needs and disabilities in line with the 2015 SEND Code of Practice. In addition, he has undertaken training in working with young people who exhibit social and emotional challenges.
