ENGLISH, MATHS and ICT
ACADEMIC LEARNING THAT BUILDS CONFIDENCE AND PROGRESS
Our creative and nurture-based approach does not mean stepping away from academic achievement. English and Maths remain central to learning, with teaching adapted to each young person’s starting point, needs, interests and intended progression.
We provide structured academic learning within a supportive environment, helping young people strengthen core skills, address gaps in learning and work towards meaningful qualifications.

KS2 • KS3 • GCSE • Functional Skills
Learners can access English and Maths at KS2, KS3, GCSE or Functional Skills level, depending on their individual starting point and pathway.
Teaching can include:
Dedicated English & Maths tuition
GCSE or Functional Skills pathways
Exam preparation
Targeted one-to-one tuition
Additional small-group tuition
Support to address gaps in learning
Lessons are planned around each learner’s starting point and learning needs, while remaining aligned with the relevant awarding body specification and assessment requirements.
ENGLISH
Creative and engaging approaches can be used to help learners connect with English and develop confidence in the subject. For example, a learner interested in music might explore songwriting, lyrics, artists and storytelling as a route into reading, writing and analysis.
However, activities are designed to support the skills learners will need in assessment. Where appropriate, creative activities are structured around the style and demands of test and exam questions, helping learners practise applying their knowledge in the format they will encounter in assessments.
MATHS
Maths teaching focuses on developing secure understanding, learning and practising the required methods, addressing gaps in knowledge and building exam readiness.
Learners are supported to understand mathematical concepts, practise the methods required by their course and develop the confidence to apply them independently.
Where real-world examples or learner interests are used, they support the learning rather than replacing the mathematical knowledge, methods and practice required by the relevant specification.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ICT
Learners can also develop practical digital skills through Functional Skills ICT, supporting them to use technology confidently and independently.
ICT can complement wider learning and support preparation for further education, training, employment and everyday life.
LEARNING THROUGH WHAT MATTERS
Where appropriate, learning can be connected to a learner’s interests, strengths and real-world experiences to make lessons more relevant and engaging.
The aim is not to replace academic learning with creative activities, but to use approaches that help learners engage with the subject while continuing to work towards the knowledge, skills and assessment requirements of their qualification.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Young people may arrive with gaps in their education, disrupted learning or previous experiences that have affected their confidence.
Our approach is to establish their individual starting point and build learning from there.
Progress may include:
Developing core knowledge and skills
Building the foundations needed to access the curriculum and qualifications.Addressing gaps in learning
Identifying areas where learners need additional teaching, explanation and practice.Building confidence and independence
Helping learners experience success and develop the confidence to apply their skills independently.Preparing for assessments
Developing familiarity with question types, assessment requirements and the methods needed to demonstrate their knowledge.Working towards qualifications
Supporting learners through KS2, KS3, GCSE and Functional Skills pathways where appropriate.
PREPARING FOR THE NEXT STEP
Our aim is to help young people develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and qualifications they need for their next step in education, training or employment.
Through personalised teaching, engaging learning and consistent academic support, we help learners move from where they are now towards where they want to go.
